The Hermanus Waldorf School entered a funding application to the Lighthouse Ladies recently. This organisation organises an annual walk from Agulhas Lighthouse to Dangerpoint Lighthouse, a distance of approximately 100 km. 60 ladies do the walk, and each one is required to get sponsors. In March 2013 the ladies managed to collect R278 000! The aim for 2014 is R300 000. Each year a call goes out to charities to apply for this funding, and this year 18 charities applied, amongst them the Hermanus Waldorf School (for our minibus fund). We were informed that we were one of the five finalists who had to do a presentation to all the walkers on Wednesday 28th August. Glynis van Rooyen showed part of the DVD that was made some time ago, she did a power point presentation, and then we involved the children who came in as a “human bus”. They brought the house down. Their performance was so exuberant and uninhibited that they won over the hearts of most of the ladies. The result was that we were declared the winners, and will be the recipients of whatever is raised by the Lighthouse Ladies in March 2014! So we are well on our way with our minibus fund. If we do want to buy a new bus, we still need to raise some funds, as the price of a new bus is R460 000.

THE CLASS 5 HUMAN BUS

The bus will be used to transport 40 pre-school children to and from school daily. It will also take our sport teams to play against other schools, and make it possible for our pupils to attend cultural and educational events in the area and further afield.

Make a difference to the lives of our pupils and contribute to our bus fund!
